The Preschool Experience is a well-established independent preschool started in 1980. Our program is designed for children ages 2 – 5 years old.  We have three separate classrooms: a 2 – 3 year old class, the Bunny Room, a 3 – 4 year old class, the Cub Room, and a 4 – 5 year old class, the Rainbow Room. Each class is established separately, however opportunities do exist throughout the year for children of different ages to mix and interact together, particularly during the Extended Day program

The school has two convenient locations, each contiguous to our generous play yard. The Upper School (ages 3 – 5) is located in a sunny Victorian house on the first floor. The lay-out consists of two generous classroom areas, a “Kitchen” area for tactile play and painting, and a “Block Room” for small group play and music. Our secure playground has imaginary play stations, a sandbox, and a gym. The Lower School (age 2 – 3) is located on the opposite side of the play yard in an easily accessible classroom on the first floor of the Trinity Episcopal Church Annex on Furber Lane.

Our program is child-directed, based on each child’s developmental needs. We place primary emphasis on the development of socialization skills, the fostering of each child’s self-esteem, and the development of readiness skills. Our focus is on helping children gain the skills that will help them take their first independent steps and develop a joy of learning that enables them to interact with the world around them in meaningful and positive ways. We provide a nurturing, safe and friendly environment that encourages children to learn, share, and grow.

We consider the teacher-child relationship to be the foundation of our program. First and foremost, our teachers love children and interact with them in an open, inclusive way. Our commitment to a small teacher-to-child ratio enables us to provide a nurturing environment where children can grow and learn in positive and developmentally appropriate ways. All of our staff are professionals, trained and experienced in the field of Early Childhood Education. They are certified by the Department of Early Education and Care, and many have BA’s and MA’s in education. We are dedicated to providing ongoing opportunities to help our staff continue their training and continuing education through workshops, seminars and coursework.

We strongly encourage parent involvement with the school. We believe that the education of your child during the preschool years is a partnership between the school and the parents. We offer opportunities for parents to visit the classroom: to help with a specific project, share special interests or talents, read a special book, or participate in the ongoing daily activities. In addition, we provide monthly newsletters, weekly and monthly calendars, and all-school social gatherings. We schedule two parent conferences a year, and our staff are always available by phone or email.
