Its has been a pleasure seeing our older daughter develop into this wonderful toddler over the years at The Preschool Experience as she went from being a bunny to a rainbow. The school planted the seed for the crucial life skills that she would need to become a strong, confident and a good person. Our daughter talks very fondly about her teachers which only goes to show the nurturing atmosphere of the school. Looking forward to our younger one’s journey at the school!
Our Program
TODDLER (2 – 3 YEAR OLD) PROGRAM
The Bunny Class runs from 8:30AM – 12:00 Noon. It is comprised of up to 15 students, with a maximum of 8 or 9 students each day. There are 2-day, 3-day, 4-day and 5-day options available. Our small teacher student ratio ensures that each student receives the individual attention that is essential at this age.
The focus of the Bunny Room Curriculum is to create a warm and intimate environment that is a secure transition from home to school. We emphasize activities that help toddlers begin to separate from their parents and gain self-care skills such as feeding themselves, toileting, climbing, dressing, holding paintbrushes, picking things up, carrying things, etc. The classroom teaching team consists of a Lead Teacher and one Assisting Teacher.
PRESCHOOL (3 – 5 YEAR OLD) PROGRAM
We have two classrooms in our preschool program. The Cub Class, (children 3.0 – 4), is comprised of up to 15 students, with 12 or 13 children coming every day. There are 3-day options, 4-day options, and 5-day options available for this class. The Rainbow Class, (children 4.0 – 5), is comprised of up to 16 students, with 14 or 15 students coming every day. Students may come for either 4 or 5 days in this classroom. The school day runs from 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM. Both classrooms are overseen by two Co-Lead Teachers.
Our Preschool Curriculum is centered on providing opportunities for children to explore and learn about the world around them through a wide variety of rich and meaningful experiences. We encourage the development of individual creativity, and follow the philosophy of “process not product.” Our classroom daily schedules include opportunities for Dramatic Play, Art Expression, Cooperative Play, Quiet Time, Block Building, Language Development, Tactile Play, and both Large and Small Group Experiences.
EARLY BIRD AND EXTENDED DAY PROGRAMS
We offer an Extended Day Program that expands the school day to 8:00 – 3:00 PM five days a week. Early Bird drop-off is from 8:00 to 8:25 AM and Extended Day pick up is at 1:00 (for Bunny students interested in lunch bunch), 2:30 or 3:00 PM (for any students). Both programs are mixed ages and take place at the Upper School location at 1091 Centre Street. The program is staffed by teachers from our regular school-day program. Students from all three classrooms may enroll in either of these programs at any time during the school year.
SUMMER PROGRAM
Our Summer Camp Program begins the week following Memorial Day. We offer one all-inclusive 3-week session, June Bugs, which runs from 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM, with Extended Day hours available 1:00 – 2:30 or 3:00 PM. This is followed by six individual one-week sessions, which run from 8:30 AM – 1:00 PM daily. Students who attend the individual sessions bring their lunch to be eaten at camp. Enrollment is open to both children who are current students, or are enrolling in the Cub or Rainbow classes for the following school year.
The goals of the Summer Program are to enable each child to have a warm, friendly, and supportive atmosphere in which to satisfy the need to explore and be creative. A great deal of time is spent out of doors exploring areas of nature. We also include age-appropriate events, walking field trips, and special activities. Each day includes wading and water play. Camp activities include: Nature Study, Arts and Crafts, Music, Dance, Games, Creative Movement, Wading Pools and Slides, Outdoor Games and FUN!
SCHOOL YEAR
Our School Year runs from September to the end of May/beginning of June. School begins the Monday after Labor Day and ends the Friday after Memorial Day. During the week of Labor Day we offer an assortment of Orientation activities including Home Visits for all new incoming students and Open Houses for both students and parents.
During the school year we follow the Newton Public Schools calendar in regard to holidays and vacations, with one exception: we always take a full two weeks off at the December Break.
