"A lovely, warm, family environment with caring teachers who clearly love their jobs and the kids. PSE has just the right balance of play and learning. Every day there’s something new and creative set up in the classroom that reflects the theme they are focusing on, from a pretend cow that kids actually got to milk during a farm animal unit to actual leaves they could rake during a unit on seasons. We’ve seen our daughter grow as a friend and a learner."

Toddler (2 - 3 year old) Program (Bunny Room)

The Bunny Class is divided into two segments: Older Twos (2.6 – 3.0 years old), and Younger Twos (2.0 – 2.6 years old.) The Older Twos is comprised of up to 9 students and meets Monday, Wednesday, Friday. The Younger Twos is comprised of up to 8 students and meets Tuesday, Thursday. Both classes run from 9:00 – 12:00 Noon. Our small teacher student ratio ensures that each student receives the individual attention that is essential at this age.

The focus of the Bunny Room Curriculum is to create a warm and intimate environment that is a secure transition from home to school. We emphasize activities that help toddlers begin to separate from their parents and gain self-care skills such as feeding themselves, toileting, climbing, dressing, holding paintbrushes, picking things up, carrying things, etc.

Preschool Program

We have two classrooms in our preschool program. The Cub Class , (children 3.0 – 4.0), is comprised of up to 21 students, with 16 or 17 children coming every day. There are 3-day options, 4-day options, and 5-day options available for this class. The Rainbow Class, (children 4.0 – 5.0), is comprised of 22 students, with 20 students coming every day. Students may come for either 4 or 5 days in this classroom. The school day runs from 9:00 – 12:00 Noon. Both classrooms are overseen by a Lead Teacher with two Assisting Teachers.

Our Preschool Curriculum is centered on providing opportunities for children to explore and learn about the world around them through a wide variety of rich and meaningful experiences. We encourage the development of individual creativity, and follow the philosophy of "process not product." Our classroom daily schedulesinclude opportunities for Dramatic Play, Art Expression, Cooperative Play, Quiet Time, Block Building, Language Development, Tactile Play, and both Large and Small Group Experiences.

Early Bird and Extended Day Programs

We offer an Extended Day Program that expands the school day to 8:00 – 3:00 PM five days a week. Early Bird drop-off is from 8:00 to 8:55 AM and Extended Day pick-up is at 1:00 or 3:00 PM. Both programs are mixed ages and take place at the Upper School location at 1091Centre Street. Students in the Bunny Room may enroll in the Early Bird program at any time and are eligible for the Extended Day Afternoon program once they are toilet-trained. The program is staffed by teachers from our regular school-day program.

Summer Program

Our Summer Camp Program begins the week following Memorial Day. We offer one all-inclusive 3-week session, June Bugs, followed by six individual one week sessions. The daily program runs from 9 – 12, with Extended Day hours available from 8 – 9 AM, and 12:00 – 1:00 or 3:00 PM.

The goals of the Summer Program are to enable each child to have a warm, friendly, and supportive atmosphere in which to satisfy the need to explore and be creative. A great deal of time is spent out of doors exploring areas of nature. We also include age-appropriate events, walking field trips, and special activities. Each day includes wading and water play. Camp activities include: Nature Study, Arts and Crafts, Music, Dance, Games, Creative Movement, Wading Pools and Slides, Outdoor Games and FUN!

School Year

Our School Year runs from September to the end of May/beginning of June. School begins the Monday after Labor Day and ends the Friday after Memorial Day. During the week of Labor Day we offer an assortment of Orientation activities including Home Visits for all new incoming students and Open Houses for both students and parents.

During the school year we follow the Newton Public Schools calendar in regard to holidays and vacations, with one exception: we always take a full two weeks off at the December Break.
